In order to recognize the endurance capabilities of the Dalmatian, the Dalmatian Club of Canada has enacted a membership recognition program to encourage and reward club members who spend a significant amount of time logging kilometers with a Dalmatian in an approved endurance activity.
Any person, DCC member or Associate member in good standing , who registers yearly for the program and keeps an official log (“Distance Log Record”) of kilometers traversed in any of the listed activities with any Dalmatian will receive recognition from the DCC according to the number of kilometers logged.
A person may record kilometers traversed when she/he participates with a Dalmatian in any of the following activities:
- Road Trials
- Horseback Riding
- Cart/carriage Driving
- Bike Riding
- Cross-country skiing, Snowshoeing
Enrolled persons may record kilometers from any combination of the above activities. Persons may request to have an alternate activity approved by sending a written request to the Distance Log Program Chairperson.
A person may enroll in the program at any time during the year and must enroll annually. Awards will be calculated by the calendar year: January 1 through December 31 of each year. The Distance Log Record must be sent to the chairperson for the Distance Log Program by January 31 of the following year. This may be sent by regular post or e-mail.
ENROLLMENT AND FEES
A person may enroll by filling out the first page of the Distance Log Record and returning the completed first page to the chairperson for Distance Log Program along with a yearly recording fee of $20 per family (living at the same address) ($35 for non DCC members). This can be done by mail or e-mail and e-transfer.
LEVELS OF RECOGNITION
Enrolled persons who accumulate 170 km or more with their Dalmatian during the calendar year will receive awards at the following levels of recognition:
Bronze – 170 km
Silver – 425 km
Gold – 850 km
Platinum – 1700 km (accumulative year to year)
Enrolled persons who accumulate 1700 kilometers over a period of years will receive an award for the Platinum Level of recognition. Persons may reach the Platinum Level more than once and will be recorded as Platinum 1, Platinum 2, etc.
RECOGNITION AND AWARDS
Persons who obtain one of the Bronze, Silver or Gold recognition levels during the calendar year will receive a certificate of achievement and a medallion. Platinum Level will receive a certificate and plaque. Bronze and Silver achievers will have their name and the name(s) of their dog(s) printed yearly in the Transcanadals. Gold and Platinum achievers will have their photos printed in the Transcanadals.
Q: How do I measure my distance?
A: Learning to estimate is an important aspect of Road Trial preparation and Dalmatian conditioning. There are several acceptable ways of estimating eg. driving the route used, using an area map to gauge distance, using a GPS. Use the one best suited to your activity.
Q: What is the fee for?
A: The fee covers the cost of the certificate, the award and mailing expenses.
Q: Do I, myself, need to be completing the exercise?
A: You or a family member in your household are required to complete mileage with your Dalmatian. Since this is a “team” recognition program, kilometers logged by the dog alone (such as on a treadmill) will not be eligible for recognition.
Q: Does my Dalmatian need to be CKC registered?
A: No. Distance logged with any Dalmatian may be recorded. Owners of unregistered Dalmatians who wish to participate mustshow proof that their dogs are spayed or neutered. If a person is unsure if their unregistered Dalmatian qualifies, the person may wish to ask the opinion of a veterinarian, an experienced Dalmatian breeder, or may send photos to the DCC for an opinion. Persons who reach an upper level of recognition will have a photo of themselves and their dog(s) printed in the Transcanadadals so we encourage honesty in this respect.
Q: I walk with two Dalmatians. Does this mean I may record double the distance.
A: No. Although you may record mileage logged with different Dalmatians, you may only count the kilometers that you actually traverse. You may log the distance per Dalmatian ie. 10 kilometers traversed, each dog is logged for 10 kilometers.
Q: I jog more than 170 km per year but less than 425. Will my “extra” kilometers be recorded for the “Platinum” level?
A: Yes. All the kilometers that you turn in will be recorded and will accumulate toward the Platinum level.
